It's 2023, How did that Happen?
OK so we are on our second week of 2023, I needed that first full week to stop writing 2022 on everything I do! It's incredible how time really does march on without caring one bit that means we are all getting older! I titled this blog Auld Lang Syne after the popular song we all try to sing at least in part after the ball dropping (if we stayed conscious by then at least) and it got me thinking about the literal translation of that verse.. Auld Lang Syne translates to "Times Long Past" There isn't a better title for an antique and vintage shop such as ours. The song starts off by asking the question should the days of times long past be forgotten? I emphatically say NO! We are the time capsule, the link to what our fathers and their fathers and mothers before them produced... A time when society wasn't so disposable. We are proud of our finds and even more excited sharing them with you, knowing they will be treasured once again. One of my favorite parts is when the younger generation comes in and asks "what's this?" and the honest look of learning and awe when explained to them the piece they were asking about... It's our jobs as curators of the past to educate those that desire to seek that knowledge. We all love that job here at Salvage Goods!
What does 2023 hold?
Of course I want 2023 to hold prosperity for everyone, I would love to see us all unite for our collective common good, lets not be selfish there... we are a strong force united but only if we are united... That's the big picture wish for this year and everyone marching forward... now what does 2023 hold for our tiny little corner called Salvage Goods? There are at least a million things happening behind the scenes... as hinted last blog, the Salvage Yard will begin work to get it ready for hosting events both private and community oriented. We had at one point ran a home staging business and have a warehouse full of high end home goods such as pillows, pictures, rugs and such.. we will incorporate a rack of that in the store at very discounted prices to gauge the interest,,, no fears, at the core we will always stay true to our vintage heart.. this will only occupy one small corner! But trust us, we picked the stuff based on the cool unique factor through the years so we don't anticipate anyone being disappointed in that rack of goods!
More upcycling! Finding a vintage piece, both domestic and industrial, that is beyond being restored to a working condition without putting it out of the scope of most purchasing doesn't mean we want to relegate it to the junk heap! We love all things vintage and will keep most of it alive even if it means repurposing it into something not it's original intent... They become unique one-of-a-kind functional art pieces! Look for them, it is part of our passion!
This is just the tip as our minds keep working at a dizzying pace! It is our intent to put this little old store on the map and we welcome you along for the ride!
