Story of our Clothing

Our clothing spans the generations.  We start with a good solid named brand item that already is high in quality of material and workmanship then we bring in our own flair to connect it to days-gone-by.  We make our embellishments out of vintage materials sourced from a variety of places.  Being true lovers of history, we do not destroy viable items of the past but reuse materials from damaged items that might have otherwise found themselves in landfills.  It is our determination to honor the history by keeping the materials viable for generations to come.  We then add a very special touch to our clothing, we sew in a button that is well over 100 years old to really tie-in and connect with our history.

Why a Button?

Buttons can carry huge historical value, often it is all that remains from antique garments, as fabrics tend to get brittle and crumble as they age, the button remains as a time capsule to the past.  They weather the centuries bringing with them a recorded history; They reflect the kinds of materials that were in use at the time they were made, and the events that were taking place in their respected time frame.

People have been using buttons to fasten clothing for centuries, but they are much more than utilitarian items. Rare buttons are also works of art. When a garment wore out and was destined for the rag bag, frugal housewives and maids often snipped off the beautiful buttons for use in other clothing. Because of this care, rare and beautiful buttons still exist today. Identifying one is mostly about knowing the characteristics that make it special. Most rare buttons will have a few of these traits.

It is our intention to honor this history and tradition in our clothing line.  We sew in a turn of the century or older button in each garment we produce, hiding it somewhere on the piece.  Some of these buttons can be more valuable than the clothing it's hidden on!
