Vintage Set of Six (6) Russian Matryoshka Nesting Dolls
Very pretty vintage set of six traditional Russian Matryoshka nesting dolls circa 1960’s-70’s. These hand painted wood dolls have vibrant colors of pink,red, yellow, purple and green with their native wear of headscarfs, flowered aprons and swirls.  Total of six (6) pieces with the tallest measuring 5 1/2” tall and 2” in diameter.   Original label is still attached.  In great condition, seals appear to be good, very minor wear to paint.  Please study photos carefully for condition details. Wonderful addition to any collection!
Nesting dolls are the best known and most popular of all Russian souvenirs. The Russian word for these wooden dolls is matryoshka, but they also have many different names such as babushka dolls.  The most traditional nesting doll design is one that looks like a young Russian woman dressed in Russian native costume with a scarf on her head and all dolls in a set looking almost identical to one another.  The number of dolls in the set range from 5 to 30, but some custom made ones can contain many more and size ranges accordingly.  Other set  types forms a theme, such as the classic sets Russian leaders, Christmas dolls, families, animals and more current ones that feature movie and television characters.
